this is moreso a question about the guitar than the theory. but ill risk it in hope for an answer since i dont use any other music forums.

basically i have been experimenting with the trem arm, trying to get some satch songs down. just wondering where the ideal positioning of the arm would be. im using a Jackson Performer s2 and i dont know if i need to set it up in a certain way or what. but the arm swings vertically quite loose ( this is fine for bombing and what not.. but i cant get that flutter effect, it just rattles since its not fully tightened ).. if i tighten the arm it sits facing backward.. i have tried using washer like objects to keep it sitting firm horizontally facing the head. and this works but i cant push it down out of the way when i try change pickups. any ideas?.. or just a closed thread :)

I had problems like that with my bar i prefer it to sit facing the floor that ways its out of teh way of my pickup selector and yet still close for quick access

There's no set way to use a whammy bar, I mean it's really something you should experiment with to get the most of. Dimebag Darrel, for example, mainly had his bar facing backwards, and got some of the most extreme whammy effects you'll ever hear! That said, this way may not suit you, and you may prefer to leave it hanging vertically, the butterfly effect isn't the most useful anyway! Just do whatever works best for you.
Good luck!

I think Joe uses the push in type bar on his guitars now.

As long as the little plastic bushes are new you can get the bar to sit parallel to the strings with good tension in it for the cat purr effect.

For me it seems key to have the bar tight for this effect, and thats no easy feat wiht the screw on/in type as they unwind quite quickly.
