You could check out this thread that came up a while ago. . .

I'm working through Petrucci's 'Rock Discipline' which is fairly cool. He gets through a lot of stuff. Can't comment on the others tho. Hope this is some help.

Rusty cooleys Basic training is quite good for technique, and just about any REH video from the 80s shrapnel guys. You can buy them here www.music44.com

Instructional DVD's are rarely any good. If you really want to learn something take a look at the Truefire video courses. You can find the website at www.truefire.com (http://www.truefire.com) . I have two of them. Bit pricey but they are easily worth the money.

I have to disagree to the poster above and say many instructional vids are very insightful, and you can learn a lot. These two are the ones that influenced me the most.

Scott Henderson - Melodic Control

Frank Gambale - Modes: No more mystery

Paul Gilbert's intense rock series and his terrifying guitar trip are a blast to watch (some parts are probably cheesy nowadays but I liked them back in the day) Rock Discipline was ok, I got some symetrical exercises off of it and I was into it a few years ago, it's not as fun to watch though.

Don Mock (REH producer) has a couple of videos on blues with hints of jazz which are cool. I have heard good things on the blues videos by Rubben Ford but I don't have them. There are definitely good things about videos but I seem to get a lot more mileage workwise from books. I still watch videos 'cause they are always fun.
