Hi folks!
Have you ever listened Robin Finck in Gn'r?
I think he's not very good playing lead guitar. He's not good with his phrasing, plays bad bends (allways out of tune or out of key) and he's very sloppy with both hans.
He's is Gn'r because he plays the kind of music Axl wants for the new music direction.
Anyways he plays sometimes interesting things using simple but effective chord melodies.
I'm writing this post here because i kow you're very objetive guys, i mean, you also play guitar and know about music. If you go to a Gn'r board and they are Axl fans you cannot write nothing negative about Finck because they love him.
What do you think about him and about his playing?
I'm also very interested to read EricV opinion, he allways write interesting stuff about guitar playing.
Excuse my english.

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with his playing specifically, but I think having three guitarists in a band is kind of overkill. Especially when you've got Ron Thal. That's like having ten guitarists.

Hi folk!
I have made a mistake writing in a Gn'r fan forum.
This kids doesn't know nothing about guitar playing.
I have said that Robin Finck have bad phrasing and they don't know what's guitar phrasing!!!!
They say that how can i talk about his phrasing if i don't know that person!!! I think they thought that phrasing is about his talking speech!!!!
They also say that a bend is not a guitar technique and that in a bend doesn't matter the end note!!!!!
I am a huge gnr fan. I don't think he is a bad guitar player, I thought that before but I changed my mind a while ago :D Listen to his The blues and Better for example. The solo on The blues is great and I also like the song Better that he wrote for Guns n Roses. And then we have the second solo on November Rain, great solo! He does it great with his own things in it.
He is not so good technicaly and not the one of my favourite players either but he is absolutly not a bad player. He is the one with the best melodies of the three guitarplayers in the band now.

Hi Agno!
I have listen The Blues, Better,.... I'm not talking about the riffs or solos or music he composed.
I'm just talking about his technicall skills. He's a very limited player.
Anyway, thanks for your opinion!

When I saw G'nR live in 2002 Fincks tone didnt sound too bad and his copying of the solos weren't too bad either. However, he did have an enormously loud clam in November Rain that made me cringe. I think that type of soloing wasn't his style to begin with and he diecided to give it a try. Trent Reznor loves Finck's work(that's why he hired him in the past). I think if you throw him in an industrial metal context, he shines.

I'm sure he's in Gn'R because Axl wants an industrial sound and Finck is his man to achieve that music.

Yeah, I was so happy to hear that Ron Thal is in the band now. HeŽs not comparable to Slash, even though a lot of people do it ( and did the same when Buckethead was in the band )
I think Axl is going for a different sound and wants to go into a different direction, compared to the original lineup. Of course, he still has to play some of the classics in concert, I guess thats another reason why people start pointless "Thal vs. Slash" threads.
Thal IMO is coming from a completely different direction, being a different player. He has insane chops, and very funny and quirky ideas. If you check out some of his solo albums, youŽll hear that heŽs definitely a different player than Slash, and so I think it wouldnŽt make sense to compare them ( just like I donŽt think comparing any 2 players makes sense anyway ).
A great guy, very funny and innovative, and very nice.
