This local dude that I know can play anything and his muting skills are awsome. He said that he practices with the amp really loud and that is how he mastered it.
IF you practice muting with the amp at low volume you are not getting the same noise ratio. He said he blasts the amp and deals with the feedback and noise until his muting skills eliminate it. IT is quite amazing to watch because he does it so well. To check out his site go to www.jimibell.com

You have to see his playing live...he doesn't play 8 notes per string most of the times...in fact, he plays more notes with just the right hand only...plus, what he usually dies is RH chromatics...and for pentatonic stretches, he plays with his index middle and ring...quite amazing if you want my opinion....there's this video concert of him with Brett Garsed at MI...try to find it if you can.

Russ, there's this guy named Steve Lynch that was the first to come up with the eight finger tapping thing; he has a video clinic that shows the basics...then of course you have Jennifer Batten....but i don't think they're anywhere near TJ's mind-boggling, frustrating technical level...

Sorry, yeah, that's what I meant. No-one does it quite like he does.

Kinda like picking, no one does it the correct way. When I do (more like try lol not very good at it) to do the seven tapping, since my pinky doesn't have the strenth yet, I mute with my thumbs base knuckle (the part on the palm)
But the only issues I have had, since I am not playing eight notes in a row more arpeggio based, is being precise and not hitting anything on the other strings adjacent to the one I am working at the moment.
