Anyone here know how to play staccato in classical guitar?
In one of my exam, it requires me to play a scale with staccato in triplet rhythm. How do I know I am playing triplet rhythm or swing rhythm or straight rhythm

I think classical players actually play ON the fret itself. It takes some practice but it gives the staccatto sound. Very difficult technique to master.
Classical players do NOT mute with the picking hand...

I'm not so sure about that Joey. I'd say to play staccato you remove your left hand finger from the frets after plucking the notes. You usually also damp the strings using the finger tips of the right hand. This helps keep the noise and unwanted harmonics down.
Also classical guitarist do mute with the right hand palm like electric player might. This effect is typically marked in the score as Pizzicato or just Pizz.

Right. Most of the shortness of stacatto playing comes from relieving the pressue from the fretted note with the fretting finger (not necessarily actually removing the finger from the string). For open strings, either the left or right hands will dampen the string shortly after it is attacked. Usually the right hand would be used, as you simply have to place the next articulating finger on the string early. For example if you plucked the high open E string with the index finger, simply place the middle finger on the string to mute it and leave it there to pluck the next note in the scale, such as an F or F# on the same string.
