Hi there

So, I start another thread, and I hope it is not too gear related.
The Problem is :
I finally bought my first new guitar ( after three years ... ), an Ibanez with a tremolo system. The question is, how can I tune this guitar down, maybe to a Dropped-D-Tuning ??
If I try to tune it with the "fine-tuners" at the bridgeīs end, it does not work, I canīt tune down enough. And I think, if I try the normal tunerīs, they control the tuning of two strings ( I case of dropped d, this would be the E- and the A-String ... )

So, thanks, if help is possible....
Greetings,
Simon

I have an LTD M-1000 which is equipped with a floyd rose. ALternate tunings are a hassle, but all it takes is time. Don't try to tune to drop D after locking the upper tuners, you will never be able to detune a semitone(perfectly) wihtout messing with the upper tuners first. So start by tuning the upper tuners. Then check your tuning and re-tune if it's not in tune. After tuning one string, another may bump out of tune because of the way floyd rose is made. SO you will probably have to re-tune three times before locking the upper tuners. then you can fine tune with the bridge tuners.

Standard string gauges are in my opinion, too lightweight for drop D or any other de-tunings. Try switiching to 11-50. It's a great gauge which gives a good low end. I assume that's what your looking for since youre tuning down ;)

If all of the above fails, get your guitar to a luthier and make him adjust the bridge for you.

Good Luck!

EDIT: Oh, be sure to have your bridge tuners centered before locking the upper tuners. This gives you a greater tuning range when fine tuning.
