Jamming partners

Anybody have tips for finding people to jam with? I've been playing for about four years now and really don't have any band/ group playing experience. None of my friends play instruments. I would try sitting in at open mic's but I would have no idea what to do once I got onstage with other musicians. Any ideas? I would ultimately like to start playing out but I need to get started somewhere. Anybody out there live in the Chicago area and wanna hook up? I know one drummer without a car, so that's a start.

I used to find people to jam with just by hanging around the local music stores or posting a few flyers. Of course, the big stores might not want you posting stuff or hanging around all the time, but if you have a decent relationship with the people at a small local store it shouldn't be that big of a deal.

Yeah, it did occur to me to do something like that. I think I'll give it a try. Thanks for the feedback. Anyone else?
