I was looking on the thread entitled "Sweep Picking Advice" and Eric V I like the sound of that paul gilbert vid your on about, particularly the bits of him actually showing you sweep picking as I dont know whether you execute sweeps from the wrist or elbow, etc. I also like the sound of the video "frank gambale- Monster Licks and Sweeping." However, the one bit of paul's is taking ages to download and I was wondering if there was anywhere you can get these as zip files as that would speed it up. Is there?
Also, I have the alternative of buying the vids, but on amazon it says you can only get american vhs- and I live in Britain! Is this true?

I mean, Eric V if you have this thing downloaded couldn't you zip it and post it, or atleast tell me where a possible link would be?

Hey there,
Iīd love to zip that clip for you, but I am afraid it wouldnīt help much. AFAIK, if those kinda compressed files are zipped, the size does not decrease a lot.
Like, if you i.e. try to zip an MP3... those are very compressed already, so you wonīt be able to decrease the size by more than a percent or two.
The PG-clip has pretty decent quality, thatīs why itīs that big.
I donīt know about any sources to get the video in the UK. The link to amazon.co.uk in the Intense Rock-review does not work anymore, so I guess theyīre nto selling it anymore.
What you COULD try if you canīt find it anywhere ( Ebay ? ) would be to get in touch with Musik Produktiv, a huge music store in Germany. I think theyīre shipping to the UK too.
Either go to their site ( www.musik-produktiv.de Once you entered, you can switch the site to ENglish ), or call their bookstore: +49 (0) 5451 - 909 204 or +49 (0) 5451 - 909 129
( or email them at bookshop@musik-produktiv.de )
They might be able to help you out.
Hope this helps

If you go to www.mansons.co.uk you will find an extensive collection of instructional videos for sale. Give them a ring, and if its not in stock they'll order it for you.
You could also try Cranes Musical Ins in Cardiff, or Gamlins Music also in Cardiff. But Mansons will have what you want.

If I get an american copy of the video will it play on an english television?
Also, when you sweep, how do you do it? (ie- should you execute it from your wrist or your elbow, what do you do with the pick, etc.)

I donīt think it would work.
A good friend once ordered a video from a British company, a present for me. It didnīt work on the VCRs in the States.
Same happened when I took some videos over to Europe. I even tried those VCRs that are supposed to play back both NTSC- and PAL-videos. Didnīt work. The sound came out, the picture didnīt.
But I am sure you can get the video in the righ format at the stores Darran recommended...
How do you sweep ? Check this out:
http://www.ibreathemusic.com/play/article/22
Itīs up to you to decide whether you wanna move from the elbow or wrist, or try a combination ( I do the latter when it comes to 5- or 6 string sweeps )
The pick kinda "falls" from string to string, in a consecutive up- or downstroke. Might be tougher to do upstrokes at first, cuz youīre going against gravity.
It takes a lot of synchronisation to really do accurate sweeping, and I think itīd be best to go for it after really working on your alternate-picking...
Or maybe you wanna go for economy-picking licks first, itīs a good step between alternate picking and sweeping.
So, I hope the article I linked to above will help ya out
Warm regards
Eric

You mean you downloaded part of the sweep picking-clip at the Racer X video gallery ?
Well, I think you need to download the whole thing ( right-clicking, "save as..." ) in order to watch it...
If you do, and it doesnīt work, you might have to update your Media Player, or even get some codec... I am not sure, but it might be that some of those videos need the divX-plugin ( http://www.divx.com )...
Hope this helps
