if anyone knows of any good exercises for building up speed or just any good exercises in general post them up here please.

I'll refer you back to Eric V's discussion of speed and the Gilbert lick etc.. He has some great exercises and stuff for speed building.

I'll post a power tab file with some gilbert lick type things..

Purchase wise, I have these suggestions:

Probably the best book available (and a few on this forum have mentioned it) is 'Speed Mechanics for Lead Guitar' by Troy Stetina.
I owned a copy of this years ago, and it really is the best speed primer, along with Paul Gilberts 'Intense Rock' video.

John Pettrucci's 'Rock disipline' video is also a great source, if a little intimidating.

Stetina's Speed Mechanics book is really great.. I believe Troy still has some samples from that book on his website..
