View Full Version : Proper Piano Fingering for Pentatonic Scales?

Hello all...

Does anyone know the proper fingering for major and minor pentatonic scales on the keyboard?

And if there is more than one approach, can anyone provide the one that "changes" the least; like, if there is one fingering pattern that works for all 12, that would be great. (I say all 12 because each major has its minor equivalet, so i guess there are 12 to master, not 24).

I was trying to train myself last night but thought maybe I might be learning the best way, so I thought I'd ask.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

The pents are easy...it's a two octave fingering...start with Eb minor --(the black key one,)

Right hand is: 1234 124 1245 and descending: 5421 421 4321

This also works for Ami Dmi Emi and B mi.

Some vary going up and down, ie: C minor going up is:123 1234 1245 Down is: 5421 31 421 31

Anyway, there are 24 major and minor and they're all easy like above.

Oops- I forgot to add some of the major pents...Gb major, two octaves is:

123 1234 1235 ascending going down is: 5321 4321 321

This also works for C , F and B majors..

Here's one odd one for variety D Major: 123 124 13 124 going down is: 421 321 31 321
