Hi guys!

I'm looking for different approaches to legato, it's a really good, fluid technique but i'm kinda stuck with it.

The only things that come out of my fingers are like, scalar runs up and down. And while this is really nice for certain phrases i want to be able to build more melodic things using legato. Any suggestions on approaches, or players that are more into legato than picking?

Cheers!

The master at it is Allan Holdsworth...then you have names like Brett Garsed, TJ Helmerich, Ritchie Kotzen...there are some more, but those are the ones that pop to my mind

Midnight by Satriani has inspired me to write about a half different songs all legato...

Don't underestimate the power of a single string. There you can add much larger intervals to your multi-string scalar runs. I am specially fond of m7 (10 fret) slides, they have a very cool sound and most times you can use the note below it (one or two frets below depending on the key) as a very strong melody note.

So make a point of experimenting with large interval slides. Sometimes that's all you need to freshen up a tired scale run.

Good luck.
