Hi

First of all I'm new to the forum, I've been reading the topics for quite some time now but have only recently decided to join.

My main reason for joining is to get specific advice on a problem I've had for the passed few years.

I cannot seem to increase my picking speed while playing electric guitar (right handed). This goes for Alternative Picking, Standard Picking and Economy Picking. I have been playing for around 4 or so years and struggle to down pick even some of the most simple stuff (even some Offspring songs!)

I feel a vast amount of tension in my right shoulder when I'm picking and some in my elbow, my aim is to primarily pick from the wrist and build speed from there but It just isn't happening.

Does anyone have an idea as to what I can do to increase my downward picking motion and my alternate picking? I'm sure the tension has a lot to do with it but I am unsure as how to eliminate it.

Thanks in advance :)
Gary
