View Full Version : Reverberation from strings

When I hit the high e string i used to get a lot of noise from other strings if I let the note ring. However the noise has been reduced since I bought myself a better amp, unlike my old 15w practice one.

I like to play the heavier styles, so with a high gain this noise is a slight problem, even though it is quiet. Although I see many people control this noise by resting their hands over the strings, (I do as well; palm over every other string apart from the one being played) what do people with a "floating hand" do? Do they also control their strings, or is a "floating hand" allowed to rest on the strings to keep them quiet but just not touch the rest of the body?

Floating hand isn't really floating because your palm rests on the strings and bridge, muting and anchoring at the same time.

Nice to know that I have a kind of floating hand. How does one play the low e string unmuted, because otherwise theres no other strings to rest on (the higher strings maybe?)

My "floating hand" moves back behind & above the bridge for the lower strings, while my fretting hand mutes the high strings.
