When I hybrid pick with a clean or slightly overdrive tone, it sounds fine. you get that snappy clear sound of when you use your fingers to hit certain notes. however i'm having trouble hybrid picking fast passages with distortion. I can hit the notes fine with my finger, its just that they not nearly as strong as the picked notes. thats why playing songs like cliffs of dover with hybrid picking doesnt sound right because my fingers cant get the notes to ring out strong. how do ppl hybrid pick to the point where the plucked notes sound as if they were hit with a pick, with distortion? I dont see how ppl do crazy hybrid picked string skips with gain and have all the notes ring out loud and even...any tips?

Well I'm no hardcore hybrid picking-guy. But you should check out Zakk Wylde's "pentatonic hardcore" instructional video. He shows many chickin' pickin' licks with ridiculous gain that i think will help you.

Since I haven't heard your playing, it's hard to give advice. But slow it down and try to separate your notes a little more.

Cheers!
