I have more backing tracks in my computer then I think is healthy.
But most of them is taken from instructional material and magazines such as the U.K ones so I guess sharing them wouldn't be very legal.

Here's some sites I have in my computer with free backing tracks.
Some sites might not work any longer.
I haven't checked them in a long time.

Hi. I saw that I was getting incoming hits from this post. I have moved the jam tracks on www.GuitarTeacher.com to a new page.

You can now find my free jam tracks @ http://guitarteacher.com/category/guitar-jam-tracks/

Have fun!

And likewise, my website was recently updated and moved to another server, so my backing tracks are here: http://www.keith-moore.net/jamtracks.html

I just put one up last week to explore pitch axis techniques.

You guys are not going to believe this stash I found. Not sure if all the links still work. Hope you know how to deal with .RAR files!

Backing tracks are fine and all but it is much better to be able to sequence them yourself. The trick to becoming a good soloist is to practice in different keys, over varied chord changes, with different feels and genres. Backing tracks will not help you learn to play over your own songs either.

I use an old Yamaha QY20. I can program different chord changes and change tempos. I could play "Stella" for example, Jazz feel and change it to Bossa. I can carry it to my lessons. Some other teachers at MI use "Band in a Box" and bring their computers to classes. I might start doing this as well.

I always feel like I am cheating myslef or half-assing if I download a backing track. I have to create my own, even if it is lame. It is my lame, if you get my point.
