Come on - what are your favorite bass riffs?
Especially the easier ones that new bass students can play?

Gotta add hotel california to that. I know its not a complex song, but I find the bassline very cool.
And another great one (although not sure how easy it is to play) is the bassline in Haitian Divorce by Steely Dan.

It sure sounds like it. :p
At least before you analyse it or have a strong ear. Ok just chromatisism in a minor key but I agree the bass on this is inventive and fun.
My top 5:
With or without you (completely the identity of this song)
For the love of god (just the tonic-fifth-octave each time but oh so effective)
Time of my life (groovy, makes those feet move)
Shout (It could be synth but bass is bass)
Cars (if you haven't ever vaguely heard this in at least a commercial you live in a soundproof cave of Agartha, hollow earth PO box 56433)

Cars - Gary Numan.
Familiar, no?
And the '56433' whatever is as serious as the hollow earth and 'Agartha' city.
