What do you guys play out there, sometimes I feel like I'm the only non-guitarist here (yeah, I have a guitar, but I'm not that serious). I'm a drummer doing a Jazz course, but I cut my teeth on rock and that where my hearts at (I think). I'm only doing Jazz to get as good as I can, however, playing with loads of Jazzers is having an effect on me and now I just can't get enough of playing funky jazz jams that go really rocky. I'm a bit mixed up musically at the moment!
Hi Blackbolt,
Yeah, I guess you are surrounded by guitar players. I hope that doesn't turn you off . Reason being that iBreatheMusic evolved from guitar4u.com, which already had quite a good following.
We changed to iBreathe as we slowly wanna grow as a site for all musicians. And we are working on getting more articles into the learn section.
Well, it will be a long way but maybe you can initiate something on the drums side (hint hint hint ;) )
BongoBoy for example is into percussion stuff.

I started conga in late Dec last year, and only started guitar within the past month. Have never touched drumset. I'm happy to hear you're musically mixed up--I think the world can handle even more musical variety than we already have!
My musical tastes do not include most of the stuff that uses conga--I like very little Latin Jazz (actually, none that I've heard yet), and have no use for pop salsa. But I love the conga--so maybe I'll use them 'non traditionally' and see what happens.
My guess is, there's quite a few folks here who do more than just guitar!

My mates' band has a conga player who switches between them and trumpet and his band is a ska punk band which kick *** in a very un-latin Jazz way (yeah, I can still take or leave latin Jazz) so I guess you just need to find a band that you like playing in stick in your congas and see how it sounds. When doing this though, you have to remember to be objective, if it sounds poo then experiment with it till it's good or drop it altogether.
Do you do much ethnic or folk loric stuff like traditional latin rhythms like Ijexa or anything? Or are you just generally learning how to play? Either way congas (and djembes) kick ***!

Really just learning. There's so much more I need to be able to do just to feel like I have the basics. Not having a band to play in makes it challenging to stay with it, not get bored, etc.
I just got back from seeing Peter White play here in Colorado and was duly impressed--maybe you've seen or at least heard of him in the UK. What an inspiration this guy is.
