Yes, I'm serious, I DON"T know what they mean. Can you define/describe/differntiate these two common terms?

Riff usually means a rhythm (not improvised) part with a strong melodic theme ( like the vocal's guitar answer in Led Zepplin's Black Dog Or the main guitar part in Heartbreaker or Rock and Roll). ( or if you are a jazz lover the 'Head' of Moanin' or T'hings Ain't What they used to be')

Licks usually mean parts of a solo ( maybe improvised) that are memorable enough to be reproduced ( lead break in HeartBreaker or Whole Lotta Love or Rock and Roll)

I used Jimmy Paige here as an example because he is so well known for his riffs and licks.
