Hey guys, I was wondering, What does Jimmy Page use with his solos? Does he stick to pentatonic or what? I'd like to get that sound and I'm just curious what he does during many of his solos? Thanks!

Mainly its a mixture of super-imposed major & minor pentatonic. Thats like saying "play G major pentatonic (this is the same notes as E minor pentatonic) & G minor pentatonic at the same time".

For example:

G Minor pentatonic:
3
| | . | | | . |
| | . | | | . |
| | . | | . | |
| | . | | . | |
| | . | | . | |
| | . | | | . |

G Major pentatonic:
3
| | . | | . | |
| | . | | . | |
| . | | . | | |
| . | | | . | |
| . | | | . | |
| | . | | . | |

The badass blues scale:
3
| | . | | . | . |
| | . | | . | . |
| . | . | . | . | |
| . | . | | . | |
| . | . | | . | |
| | . | | . | . |

Oh, and you can add the blues note in too:
3
| | . | | . | . |
| . | . | | . | . |
| . | . | . | . | . |
| . | . | | . | |
| . | . | . | . | |
| | . | | . | . |
Try repeating the above for all possible positions when you are comfortable with 1st position.

Thanks!

I know the first 2 patterns for minor pent and I'm still learning the others but does he do anything else but pent? Is he known for anything other things? Thanks!

Combining the parallel major & minor pentatonics will cover 99% of the rocky stuff he (and most other people) do. Another 0.9% is covered by chromatic passing notes. This leaves 0.1% uncovered (not that I can think of anything else he might use in this sort of style, but I'm sure there must be something).

Stuff like the intro to Stairway is obviously a different style. Thats more like traditional functional harmony and therefore uses the major/minor scales.

Why are you asking for more stuff? Using the scale I showed you will take you several years to become familiar with (if you are quick to learn & hardworking). It could take a lot longer, obviously.
