I've thought of this for a very long time and I have finally lost patience. So I thought I would take the shortcut from this forum; asking you guys:p

Let's say, a chord progression that goes C major - F major - G7. If I play a 'vai' kind of tap, meaning:

T (Slide with right hand)
Top E String ---13-s-15-s-13-p-12-p-10-p-8-h-10-h-12---

(Hope you guys understand this)

Do I hit the corresponding chord tone when the corresponding chord comes along? Eg: Play C, D and E and tap on G (Which is the fifth of C major) when C major is played. This is easy, as it automatically emphasizes C major.

The main question: Is it okay if I tapped only on G, but descend the scale with my left hand while the entire progression goes on? What I mean is: is it okay to 'NOT' hit the chord tones?

Er... I'm no expert on the subject but I'd say: if it SOUNDS okay, it IS okay. If you think 'Ouch, that hurts my ears' it's time to do it another way.

I'm really into theory at this moment and I'm enjoying it a lot, but in the end it's the music itself that counts. Does it sound good? Beatifull? Terryfiying if needed? At last that's what it's all about!
So if your Vai taps sound great over the chordscheme: use it!
