View Full Version : PowerTab vs Real Life
Hi all!
Recently I've been transcribing some cover version of an old blues song (don't remeber the name). But as I only have my acoustic at home I was wondering if the trick which I wrote in staff in Powertab works on actual electric guitar.
The idea is: bending an unison fretted note on the background of ringing open string to create a slight dissonance to obtain blusey sound (please don't laugh - I'm an acoustic guitar player :)). Is it possible/playable/used?
Thanks,
Zatz.
This is how it sounds in Powertab...

Hey Zatz! I might be getting you wrong im not too sure, but yes you can do a unison bend while letting a string ring. Hope this is what you were asking!

It will sound like you're tuning the guitar... you'll start getting the beat frequencies which will speed up the farther you bend.
It is more typical, IMO, to bend from an A up to a B while the open B is ringing. This is more appealing to my ears.
For example:
SRV does this stuff with the open high E ringing and then bends the D on the 15th fret of the B string up to an E. Listen to the live version of Crossfire and you'll hear it!;)
OK, thanks Bizarro! I just couldn't get the feel of this effect without amplification.

Exactly what I wanted to know - the typical, natural way.
Koala, you have really encouraged me to bend 'em all! :D
With Powertab one can do funny things sometimes:

LOL... you can do that on a guitar too... as long as you ainīt got a locking nut. Itīs called a "behind the nut" bend... pick teh string, and bend it behind the nut. You can also do that with open chords ( i.e. E ), and it will give you some kind of a pedal steel type sound.
My buddy Tommy Alderson really can do some crazy stuff with that
Eric

OOPS! :)
Time to buy electric guitar! I think I'm ready now :D
