I was listening to Led Zeppelin's Physical Grafitti the other night, and one of my favorite tracks is 'In the Light'

What I was curious about was, what instrument is making that SOUND?! It sounds like some kind of Mid-eastern instrument, but I just don't know!

I thought it was a bagpipe.

I'm not really sure but it may just be a slide guitar with some of Page's bacwards echo, maybe through the Leslie rotating speaker thing. J.P. Jones plays a clavinet on there as well. I think they call it a D style which differs slighty from the stevie wonder C style in it's abilty to produce exotic tones (not sure if those are the correct terms.) I know that little Harpsichord (I'm sure I just misspelled that) part in there's a clavinet. Anyways the clavinet is all over that album Trampled Under Foot and Custard Pie are pretty heavily laced with it.

NP-Led Zeppelin "Physical Graffti"
(personally that's my fav Zeppelin Album)
(It's so loose, yet tight)

Don īt have the album here right now, but Page also sometimes used a Theremin, which can really create some weird sounds...

I used to get a damn close sound with my old Moog Sattelite and an echoplex, I think I used the oboe voice and tweaked it a bit, but that was 22 years ago!
