View Full Version : Kind Of A Survey- The Dream Jam
08-24-2002, 07:42 PM
funny. I recently was part of a guitarist-roundtable, and there was some kind of a survey, called the "Dream Jam". I believe the idea was taken from the GFTPM-magazine, who once did a feature like that.
Anyway, I figured I´d post the question and my answers here, hoping that some of you might be part of this, making up your own "dream jam"... might be fun and pretty interesting, too.
So, here it goes:
"If you could make up a band from any musician you like, alive or dead, what would this band look like ? You can decide which instruments you want to have involved ?"
Lead guitar- Steve Morse, Greg Howe, Paul Gilbert and myself
Rhythm guitar: Malcolm Young & Steve Stevens
Bass: Billy Sheehan
Vocals: Sebastian Bach & Richie Kotzen
Backing vocals: King´s X, Extreme
Drums: Simon Phillips
Keyboards: Jordan Rudess and T. Lavitz
Sax: The dude from SNL
So... what does YOUR dream jam look like ?

...wow, there's not even one of those folks I've ever even heard of. Except Morse, and then only because of this site. I think I live in a very tiny world.
...oh, and except for the sax guy on SNL--hell, everyone's heard of Bill Clinton :D

Hi Bongo Boy...
well then go ahead and post your own dream jam... that´s why I posted this, to have several members participate :)
Anyway, about the guys I mentioned... there more or less all "rock players"... here we go:
Morse- don´t have to comment that one
Paul Gilbert- wrote a lot about him too...
Greg Howe- Awesome fusion-rock player, released several solo albums, currently live-guitarist fro N´Sync and Enrique Iglesias
Malcolm Young- Rhythm guitarist of AC DC... talk abotu GROOVE
Steve Stevens- Guitar player for Billy Idol. Also played for Vince Neil and released two albums with Tony Levin and Terry Bozzio.
Billy Sheehan- Former bassist of Talas, David Lee Roth and Mr. Big.
Sebastian Bach- Former singer of Skid Row. To me, he is pretty much the best rock / metal singer. Incredible voice. Also performed on broadway ( "Dr. jeykyll and Mr. Hyde" sp ? )
Richie Kotzen- Former guitarist of Poison and Mr. Big. Awesome singer, guitarist and songwriter.
King´s X and Extreme are two of my favorite bands
Simon Phillips- A VERY busy studio-drummer, also plays drum for Toto. Has played on BUNCHES of records.
Jordan Ruddess- Current keyboarder for Dream Theater
T.Lavitz- Keyboarder for the Dixie Dregs and Jazz Is Dead

Well I sure didn't mean to imply that because I hadn't heard of them that I didn't think they were good choices!!! The exercise just kinda got in my face with how ignorant I am of what's been going on in music for the past...ever.
I couldn't come up with my own list...it's just not possible. Even if I could come up with a favorite genre of music (which I can't) I wouldn't be able to name artists from that genre and know what they play--it's just not something I've ever paid attention to.
