Well, I know that when you weight lift, you kill the muscles in your arm and when they grow back, they grow back stronger. I'm assuming its the same with your fingers, so if I have a hard legato workout one day, should I have another one the next day? Would a hard legato work out everyday be unsafe for my fingers? If it depends on how hard my workout is, I'd say about half an hour of my fingers just going around the fret board, and when I'm done, I'm damn tired.

I think a little bit everyday is better than a whole lot one day...

refer to EricV's 'workout' articles. Specifically part 3 and the '6 minute legato workout'. That should be more than enough to give yourself a work out, in fact you'll probably need to work up to it.

I think practicing legato each day doesn't necessarily cause harm as long as you don't forget to listen to what your body "tells" you - if pain occurs it's time to stop!
Take breaks! The rule of thumb is: the relation between work and break should always (!) be 3:1. Practice for 6 min, take a 2 min break, practice for 12 min, take a 4 min break - you get the idea. Try this, the result is amazing. The "3:1"-approach is perhaps the most important thing I learned about practicing so far.
