Anyone else out there have problems finding compatible bandmates? I'm a decent player and pretty easy going but I ALWAYS seem to be the most enthusiastic member and its getting REALLY TIRING! I live in a (fairly large) city and there should be lots of like-minded souls out there - should'nt there?
Any tips? Can a band be productive writing and collaborating when they only see each other for 5 hours a week?

As a matter of fact 5 hours a week of band practicing is quite a bit... I don't know how old you are or what your goals are, but when you've got a job and other resposibilities it's hard to coordinate time to get together, you can always practice your instrument for 20+ hours a week by yourself, and if on top of that you can get together with your bandmates for 5 hours on a weekend... that's just great.
Once you start getting some gigs and more practice time is required (say you've got an event; a party or a wedding or something, and you gotta prepare material that you've never played) your bandmates will adapt and do it... if it's "playing for fun" kind of thing I think 5 hours a week of band practice is plenty.
Also read Chris' article "Playing for Life" and he's got another ones of the kind on his site, he's a very insightful teacher and he gives good advice check him out.

Thanx Jorge - good advice. You're right about 5 hours being enough to put together cover songs if everybody does their 'homework'. It's also maybe not necessary for everybody to play 'til the 'wee hours'; it's just SO FREAKIN FUN I never want to stop! Every article I read in these forums relates to something I've wondered along the way or opens my eyes big time! This is the BEST guitar/music related site on the net as far as i'm concerned! Keep up the good work!
