I'm seriously thinking of getting one.
Looking at the web sites and readin reviews in guitar mags this thing looks great. I want something that i can use to experiment with tones/gear without having to spend so much money at first. I also want something to record properly with.
Just wondered though, those of you who have Guitar Port, is it really as useful and good as it appears?

I while back I was gonna get it, but then I found out you have to pay monthly to be able to stay in the online community. I think 9.95 a month, but when I get something, I hate having to pay to be able to keep using it. But if you've got an extra 10 bucks a month, and (I think) 160 bucks to get it, the features on it are really cool.

I bought a GuitarPort when I started playing again last year after a long break. I didn't want to fork out a whole load of money on an amp, pedals etc at first. It's a fantastic tool. I find the online service invaluable for the grooves that can be downloaded and played along with. It makes my practice sessions much more fun than they would be normally and it really doesn't cost much more than the price of a guitar mag with cover disc every month.
The only proble for me was that I couldn't really cart it along to a mates house when I wanted to play there without installing software, drivers etc on his PC so I eventually bit the bullet and upgraded to a PODXT. This gives me all the stuff I liked about the GuitarPort but a much larger selection of amp models and effects. The GuitarPort on it's own is still a cool practice tool if you have access to other gear for playing elsewhere though.
I'm using mine as a doorstop now if you're still interested in buying one

I purchased the Line6 GuitarPort about 5 weeks ago and signed up for 1 year of their on-line service. From my perspective as a new student of the guitar the product rocks! It allows me to interface with my computer to record practice sessions (also have Cakewalks GuitarTracks Pro as the recording software) which help alot on after practice reviews to see what I need to focus on. The service provides lessons on licks and styles from varied environments from Hard Rock, Art Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Blues etc. So far it seems to me that new content is added regularly. When I get to the point where I can play with other musicians I will upgrade to the PODXT or equivelent, but as a new guitar player I find the GuitarPort a excellent tool in my education.
