**Warning this is a rant please do not be offended by the length... but yes you are allowed to be offended by content**

My "band" officially sucks... We've been "together" since september and what have we done... absolutly NOTHING. This band was a pipe dream of my roommate, who basically told me he wanted me to play bass and handed me a bunch of Killswitch Engage bass tabs. He constantly goes on about how many ideas he has for the band even though he wants us to sound exactly like Killswitch... oh yeah except he wants me to strum my bass cause it sounds cool. Strumming my bass?? Yeah he thinks he knows everything about the instrument because he too is a bass player who is "constantly improving" even though he only plays on average 15 minutes every three weeks and plays the same slap and pop ditty that sounds like crap. My band leader also enjoys recruiting people who are beginners or can't play well. Everything has to be Metal.... I'm starting to think my band leader is a weak poser and this band is a vehicle for his rise to fame. So far I'm frustrated with the lack of involvement with the band and I don't feel like dragging this dead horse any longer. A majortiy of the inactivity is caused by our lack of a drummer, ie. our fearless leader doesn't want to practice, write songs, or anything until we have a complete group of people to drag down, on top of our guitarists who can't play, and a leader/singer that rarely even knows what note he is singing or where the notes are on a fretboard... seriously he makes fun of me for playing slowly and with a pick then asks me where E would be in Drop D tuning. I wanna play in like a jazz/blues rock thing where I can actually . I dunno this is just frustration talking and it feels good to get this off my chest.... anyone got any ideas for the situation? Besides leading a bolshivik style revolution :D

hmm..
get some serious people around you. people who like progress and, in the best case, are better than you.
there is no reason to be in a band just for the sake of it.
it is a different story if the band sucks but everybody is trying hard, but how your story sounds those guys are happy just to fool around.

Solution seems easy enough to me. Quit and form another band.

If i didnt have all that info id probablly say talk to them and set some goals, then get working. But the outlook cant be that positive, I say start a new band. or work by yourself, no need in wasting time with people who dont really give a rats ***.

You need to vacate the premises asap !!!! Why waste your time with people who are obviously not motivated. Take your time looking for new bandmates who have like-minded goals and objectives.

I'm stunned to hear that you now think your band leader may just be using the band as his vehicle to the big time. 'Tang always has something to do with it too I find.

:D ;)

Ditch the mutha and strike out on your own, these guys will never get past their garage doors.

I had a band before, they are not that suck, they can play but not that good. I'm the lead guitarist and I was very happy when we started the band. We performed many times, but I'm not very happy when them. Because I think they don't want proggress and not motivated enough because I'm the only one who improvise everything, they want simple parts and jobs. The solution: I quite, I have no band now, I write my own song, I'm happy.

So I lost my interest in making a band. Now I love to write songs.
