I find that on weekdays I only practice about 2 hours a day, while on weekends it can be anywhere from 4 or 5 up. I know I should practice the same amount everyday, but on weekdays I have homework and stuff, so I don't get a chance to practice. Is practicing a lot more on the weekends than weekdays safe(will I hurt myself? My hands both felt like they got a great workout today, no pain, just tired) So is it ok do to that, as long as no pain is involved?

if you really wanna be good, quit doing your homework, it will have a negative effect on your schoolwork and grades but your playing will get better.it is impossible to be a virtuoso that makes straight A's, there simply arent enough hours in the day. choose what you think is right for you and then decide what you want to do about it.

lol This is a completely ridiculous statement. There is plenty of time in a day to get some good work in on the guitar and your schoolwork. You just have to learn to use what time you do have in the most productive way possible.

Make sure you warm up and take breaks! 5 hours straight would be a long time to play for anybody!

2 hours per day is enough to make fantastic progress if you utilize your time wisely. Challenge yourself and set realistic goals so you can see progress.

Don't stop doing your homework! Education can only help make you a better musician in the long run. :)

Keep doing your homework. Really focus in on your music theory homework (hopefully your taking music classes). I think it is perfect the way you practice now. You use your time the best you can. If you want to get better and practice more during the week then set your alarm a little earlier and go to bed a little later. Also try to find more time after school to both practice your guitar and study. You might find you can sqeeze in more practice and study time doing these things. You've got to do "whatever it takes" to excel at anything.

you can call the comment stupid if you want but the fact of the matter is that one can not excel at music when studying chemistry. that was the only point i was trying to make. the doing whatever it takes principle is the one that i use the most. homework is important if you plan to further your study and go to college. i dont believe in doing homework that does not benefit you. hence why i do not do it. i am NOT saying that music s hould be more important to you than an education, i realize thats how i came across earlier and that was not my intent. my intent was j ust to implement the idea of time management. i dont do "homework" i do it at school so it does not take away from my time with music. sorry for the muttled explanation earlier, but my only point was that if you spend all of your time at home studying and doing homework, your playing will suffer. if the proper steps are taken you can play 6-9 hours a day during the school week. i have been doing this since junior high and i have never failed a class. just use your time wisely.
