I'm just curious how all of you guys practice---> With an amp? Distortion? Clean tone? No amp?

I usually practice with no amp, because I can hear the fret buzz if I make any, which forces me to play that much cleaner. Than once in a while I just turn on the distortion really loud and play as fast as I can, because it sounds cool and its fun :-) What about you?

When I'm working on technical stuff, I'll play cleanly to make sure I'm playing each note properly, and then play the same thing with distortion to work on keeping the other strings muted.

I play with clean and distortion it just depends on what i want...I also like taking parts that are clean and putting distortion on them.....I like being "out of the box" i guess...but i play with watt i want according to how i feel

For practicing arpeggios I find that using distortion is more difficult than without. The distortion leaves the playing very suceptable to noise and stuff I feel. You can fly around the place with a clean tone sweeping, but once you turn on the dist. you'll find a bit of noise which is hidden under the clean tone.
