Hi
I change the strings once or twice a month, Depending on how many hours I have been playing. When the strings start to loose
their bright quality tone- then I choose to replace them.
You can do quite a lot to preserve them by wiping them over with a cloth after every practice session or by simply washing you hands before playing.

Not nearly often enough. I usually leave them on for like a month and a half or two months. I just put on a pair or those DR Black Beauties, so maybe they'll last longer.
*shrug* I'm lazy.

I hate changing strings. Damn floyd roses. Anyways, I probably change strings every month or two.

Depends on the string brand- I’ve 2 guitars with Ernie Balls, these get re-strung the most. Currently, my DR (Extra Life, black coated strings) equipped Fender tele & Ibanez RG are going into their 9th week without having to replace ‘em strings…

It depends on the situation, if im in the studio with big long sessions I change strings about every 2 weeks to keep em live and punchy, but some of my practice guitars have had the same strings for ever!

I usually change them right before a gig. This is a good way to be shure that no string will break during the show.

first: to change your strings just before a gig is a serious mistake... and to change them after a week is also a mistake..(depenging on how much u play that week) this is because u need to get ur strings adjusted to your guitar and they get that by being played on... i play maybe 2 hours per day and i change my strings evry 6th mounth.. remember to oil your guitar neck when u change strings...

Just wondering how much you think changing the strings improves the tone. I can see acoustic having a difference. Does electric have as big a difference?
Is a "fresh" tone worth fighting the initial string stretch?

I use .11's with a wound third now, so I don't have to change them so often. A good gauge of when you should change your strings is
1) Have 1 or more broken?
2) Are they stick to the touch around the pickups?
3) Do they feel grimy?
4) Rusty?
5) Do they not stay in tune for longer than 5 minutes?
If any of these has happened to you, change 'em...

I personally like the feel of used older strings. As long as they still hold their intonation of course!!! But heres what I use as a guideline:
For locking floyds-i will only change a string when it breaks...however that is only for rehearsals...depending on the time frame between gigs, I will replace the whole set around once a month. That keeps it from breaking at gigs.
You should look into the graph tech saddles-i have them on my non trem guitars and the strings last forever!! when they do break they usually break in the middle!!!
any way, bottom line is change strings only when they break or sound like crap, unless its a crucial situation like gigging every weekend for a month...then i would change around once a mont...Its not an exact science
By the way i use Ernie Balls super slinkys .009-.042

I play about 2 to 3 hours a day and my GHS boomer 11's last about 3 weeks before I can hear that I would prefer new strings. On my acoustic on the other hand ( Dean markely Lights 11 - 46 ( Nicest sounding acoustic strings I have tried ) Seem like they should be changed every two weeks or so because they start sounding all worn out. I play guitar with dirty fingers and dont clean my strings afterwards.
