how to play midnight

I'm just curious how you guys play "Midnight" off Satch's "Surfing with the Alien" album cleanly? I think I can play it up to speed but I always get the unwanted buzzing from the tapped notes and ringing extra strings. How do you play it? Also, is it played clean or with a little dist?

That song is played super squeaky clean. When I saw Joe (and was lucky enough to meet him) in Detroit in 1988, he tied a bandana around his neck (to keep the string from ringing) for this and used a Roland JC 120 for this to play super clean. Joe is not very tall but he had big Popeye forearms. His playing was very muscular and strong. He had purple stuff in his hair (he had hair back then) and wore some cool clothing with bones and skulls in a kind of abstract style. He played his mirror finish Ibanez a good bit that night but uesd a lime one for midnight. When he playe ddistorted he used a 50w Marshall through 2 straight 4x12 cabs, he boosted them with a chandler tube driver (rack mount version, but he had it on the floor. He was the first guy I saw using one of those Korg Tuners with the full 1/2 rack space display which was on all of the time. He used a cable and not a wireless.
