When you scroll down to the bottom of the screen in a thread, you see a "Similar Threads" thing. How does it work?

Some folks enjoy understanding how things work though. It really isn't a matter of what anyone 'needs', is it? While it may be a question better aimed at the folks who designed the software, it's still a legit question. Eh?

Some times the "Similar Threads" have literally nothing to do with another thread. New-fangled technology...

at a guess i suppose it works like a search engine.. like it finds other threads with words in the title or posts that match the one your on. for example the ones at the bottom of this thread all have titles and posts that contain "threads." with a system like that youre always going to get the odd one that has matching words but actually is completely unrelated.

i'm just assuming though, i'm probably completely wrong :)
