There is no way i can start a bloody band. No on at my school likes the same music as me, and when they do, theyre little guitar posers who cary there squier strats with the 2 watt marshall amp. Its sick, I know one guy, but i dont think he thinks im very creative. Any tips? (I'm into old metal / 80's)
Anyone here live in Austin thats around age 15-18?

'Fraid not. But I have the same problem, just in Richmond, VA. You could always post a flyer or something saying your looking for band members, just be sure to post what style of music you like so you can find people with similar interests. Metallica just had a sold-out concert somewhere in Texas, so someone likes 80s metal down there. ;)

It's always hard to start a band. Then it's damn hard to keep a band together once it's going, all them egos & stuff. I actually gave up trying to start one a few years ago and just went solo with my Ztar/guitar synth thing. Hit up a bunch of open mics, composed some stuff for local choreographers. Then I met this musician I collaborated with for one of the dance pieces and he emailed me a posting from a local circus (performing arts) looking for musicians. I hooked up with this group for a few months, made music for the blacklight show, but then complications quickly arose. However, I hit it off with a keyboardist and violinist, so now we're getting together once a week, playing parties and stuff. Not my dream gig, but it serves a creative outlet.
It's probably a bit more difficult in your case if you're into 80s metal (then again, I like it too, even though I'm not playing it much). My point is, you get out there and find a way to do your thing. Play along with a drum machine at your gig, whatever. Might not be exactly what you had in mind, but if you get out there you'll eventually network your way into a desired project.

Its tough. Post in a music store, where theres alot of students. Ask the teachers if they have any students into similar music. Post on Harmony Central's classified ad's section, I did and got like 12 replies back.

Try to be a little flexible and don't just stick to what you want/like.

My recommendation is to try to do a solo thing. Although it's going to be hard with the style of music you like... I'm sure you'd meet musicians if you were playing around. Maybe do acoustic versions of 80's songs and you can sing the solos... I do a version of Bohemian Rhapsody like this.

I live in Houston, TX and I know what you mean... I think you are either doomed to play country, or hardcore punk or you can just play by yourself... I don't really know what to tell you about this 'cause I have been looking myself for... a year now and still nothing.
Don't give up though, I haven't. Maybe sometime I'll come across someone that shares my taste in music, in the meatime improve yourself and keep sharing with other musicians, even if you odn't share the same views... you'd be surprised of how much you can learn from a "punkhead" (and I'm not joking either).
My two cents

Yea it is hard to start one, I've tryed to start a bunch in the past before I joined rewind. I accually only got one together that only got a few songs done. Try putting ads in the paper and stuff.

... of players that don't show up for gigs, and then it's on your back to get the gigs.
Asked a country western band if I could sit in. They said to come on over. I did and have been playing with thems going on 3 years.
Point of my story, I did not like country, never listened to it, but they gave me a chance to play in a band. Which was the best thing that could have happened to me at that point in time. Don't try and start a band, It's nothing but problems. Just join a band and play what they do. One of the other posts pointed out that you will be able to network into what you want. You just have to get involved with musicians. Playing with any band beats sitting home with a guitar in your lap.
Join a band and play what they play, there are plenty of beer halls around Austin, who knows, you might learn to like polka.
