Hey there guys, I was reading the gear setup thread and this got me thinking.....

Is it at all possibly to run two amp heads through a single cabinet, and switch between them as and when required?

the reason i ask is that I have a boogie, which is really nice distorted, and a Laney which gives me that Who Hiwatt sound. Is it possible to use something along the lines of an A/B switch to wire the two amps thru the same cab and switch between them?

Thanks for listening to the moans of an idiot!
Chris :)

It is possible but dangerous. This could be very bad for your output transformer, and tubes.
You would need to switch load resistors in at the same time as switching the speaker out. If your amp has more than one output you could parallel a load resistor with the output all of the time, this is safer but it will mess with your sound.
You could use a big load resistor on each amp and switch the speaker from amp to amp. The best solution is to use two cabinets and switch the inputs, or don't use any cabinet and load resistors on both heads then just use the line out signal to drive a power amp (maybe even solid state) into your cab.
