Hey guys, to commemorate (finally!) the arrival of my 512 Dsl I thought id share some old demos of my band Bangha. To download, right click and save.

this first track is called Distant Lands, most of the synthy stuff you hear is actually guitars and thats also me on the male vocals.

www.bangha.ws/mp3/BanghaDistantLands.mp3

Please keep in mind these are old, home recorded demos :D

Hope you like em,

Thorsten

Koala, that was awesome!

Is that a real sitar in the back or a sample? I love sitar! :D

Cuno

That was really good! It sounds 'produced' to me, not demo quality at all. More songs?

I listen through my old Zoom 9002, with a guitar connected, and when your song faded i hear some other choir singing. We have a church next door, and they must have a hearing aid circuit (don't know the name in english) that goes into my pu's.

Thanks guys!
Umm Thorsten the sitar is actually a sample my colleague recorded on a trip. Glad you like it :D

Thanks again Cuno, :D still they sound too "demo" for me, theyre old, and we never got around to mixing them right, apart from correcting other details. Lol make sure the curch doesnt get to hear you cuz they wouldnt like the lyrics :D.

Thanks again guys.

I've just finished listening to K. This is really good! Like a modern version of 70s Pink Floyd with some Phil Manzanera guitar. Still, you've got your own thing. If you'd post more demos, i wouldn't mind at all! :D

Koala
04-19-2004, 03:10 PM
:D thanks Cuno, K is actually one of my favorites to play live, it feels like it lasts only 5 minutes. Umm did you check out Kaleidoscope Dreaming?

Ill try upload some more stuff soon and thanks for the nice comments.

Very cool - when listening to Kaleido. Pink Floyd also was my first (positive) impression.

Kpart1's my favorite - I dig the 'drunken' guitar and how the entire thing fits together with all those different moods.

Too bad there's not more info on the website :D I'd like to know more.

But odd - I really feel like a beer and a ciggie now :p

There must be a whole story behind this K Part 1? It's pretty dramatic! I really like the eerie moods it creates and especially the beginning and ending parts.. I could listen to this pattern of chords for hours and not get tired of it in the same kinda hypnotic way as the instrumental ending of the Chilli Pepper's "sir Pyscho Sexy", speaking for myself. It's nice that it's longer too. DistantLands- also moody but in a slick, confident, cruising kinda way. I like it a lot. Kaleidoscope Dreaming, also, quality stuff. I wish I could hear it all live..

Yeah we wanna bring the site up so...Thats where my very good friends from "plan c" come in :D

Clive, thanks for the comments. There actually is a whole story behind the K saga, (it goes on to K2 (3:00) and ends with K3 (20:00) and theres actually a whole video projected while we play it. Im really glad you like it and hopefully someday will make it to South Africa.

peace and thanks for listening,

Cuno

Umm did you check out Kaleidoscope Dreaming?
Yep. It's a very good song, but it seems to fade a bit next to K. I don't know...maybe Kaleidoscope Dreaming is the one that will last. But for now, my vote goes to K pt1 as the first single :D

Im positive id already replied to this... my post vanished. Umm Cuno, no can do theyve never been recorded, what I can do is look for some of the live versions, or the little studio work thats been done on them. I promise to take a look.

Peace,

Sorry for replying so late.
Koala, man, I told you this already in the chat. I LOVE those tracks. I really enjoy Distant Lands, could listen to that for hours.
I enjoy both dreamy, looped stuff and exotic instruments and melodies, and your music combines that. That is really awesome. Very relaxing, great stuff to dream off to, day-dreaming, ya know ? =)
I would love to hear a full album of this, seriously
Keep up the great work

Very interesting Koala. I would buy your cd. The female singer, I think, reminded me of the guy that sings on Desert Rose by Sting.

It was very good and sounded professionally done. I'd love to hear more.

Koala
05-03-2004, 03:43 AM
Eric, thanks a lot for your comments theyre really mean something coming from a friend and amazing musician.:) Hopefully we´ll have a full, well-produced Bangha album in the near future.

Snu, thanks for taking a listen. About the female singer reminding you of a guy, i dont think shed be top happy to hear that :) lol, just kidding (she was actually a guest for that track only). Thanks for the positive feedback and ill try to upload some more old stuff soon.

Thanks again guys, feels real good to read your posts.

finally i got to listen to distant lands. and to make the koalapraising short - i really love it.
if you'd ever need another guitar player let me know :D that's my kinda stuff!
i'll burn it on cd and listen to to it while driving to mexico if you don't mind.

05-05-2004, 06:42 PM
Thanks Sven, and ill see you at the studio in half an hour. :) Man you have no clue how hard its been for us to get other musicians here, another guitarist would absolutely rock, especially for live setting where i have to loop or sequence stuff every time (and that just sucks!).

Im real glad you like it and start practicing your spanish :) hehehe
(im just worried about you saying youre driving here...:) lol)

osiris
05-07-2004, 06:15 AM
Hi :)
it's great idea to meet in Ukraine, for sure :-)

i like jazz/rock/fusion. my favourite band - for 10 years - is Metallica
NP "An Evening with John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess" (what a great recording!...)
at all - Holdsworth/McLaughlin/Di Meola/Metheny/Zappa, Extreme/Mr.Big/Dream Theater, Garbarek/Coria/etc ;-)
and even (don't blame me, i was a DJ for some time :) - club music.... ;-)))

Zatz
05-07-2004, 07:21 AM
Koala, LOL :D

I'm going to insist on two concerts of Bangha in Kiev during the ukrainian tour ;)

Hey man.....really great track!!!

I've always been a fan of ambient/world/dance-mix music, and have a handful of C.D.s in my collection....

I really dig the guitar fade at 2:30, killer riff, and nice textural layers throughout.....

Thanks for sharing this!!

Peace,

Scott

Hey dude.. I listened to your tracks and the really amazed me. A great deal of different ambients, i really enjoyed them!
Distant lands reminded me a lot the style of Moby.
I'm a dificult person to please, and your music liked!

How did you do those tracks?

Koala
05-14-2004, 03:13 PM
Hey Kush! Thanks a lot for posting and thanks for listening!

Koala
05-14-2004, 03:15 PM
Hey Salsa, thanks a lot for your feedback. Those tracks were recorded some time ago in my home studio using just a cheapo soundcard and cool edit pro (now adobe audition) acid, i believe a few vst´s called B4,Pro 52, ummm some outboard gear, sure mics and that was about it.

Thanks for listening!

Koala, this is some amazing music! I really love the Eastern flavor on a couple of those. I've always loved that sound. I downloaded all 3 of your tracks, some really good stuff. You wouldn't be opposed to doing a transcription of Kaleidoscope Dreaming, would you? I love that acoustic 'riff' you've got going on. Nice melodies. Keep it up, and keep us posted to new stuff!

James

EDIT: If you do happen to post a transcription, be aware I'm on a Mac and I don't have PowerTab. Maybe a text file? Maybe just tell me what key it's in? I love that song!

Koala
05-15-2004, 03:48 PM
Hey James! Thanks a lot for your post and thanks for taking the time to download all three of them! Thanks so much for your kind words.:)

Regarding Kaleidoscope umm i dont have a guitar with me right now, and havnt played it for a while but if i right its in Em. :) but i might be wrong. Ill check it out later and write down the progression for you!

once again thanks for listening!

I finally took a closer listen--and especially enjoyed Distant Lands and Kaleidoscope D that's a 'demo feel', then I very much like the 'demo feel'. While I had fun with K Part I, I'll have to get into it again when I haven't just had a big lunch--it's just too dreamy right now--that hammock in the back yard, along with the headphones, would be just too comfy. :)

A lot of creativity going on there, man.

Koala

Hey Bongo, thanks a lot for posting, and for listening. I really wanted to know what you would think of it.

Hey Koala,

Sorry I hadn't posted earlier I DOWNLOADED ( ) your songs and I hadn't really had a chance to listen to them, but it's awesome music, very Pink Floydish and hey I think Distant Land has a very sexy vibe the whole soft, laid back yet grooving percusion section then the sweet chord progression and the female singer; who almost sounds like she's doing folk middle eastern music (you know, sitar like) very pretty, and the whole techno thing... man, can you say SEX?? awesome!! Dreaming is just a treat, reminds me a lot of good old Pink Floyd very well chosen chords and melody in the middle is kinda Radioheadish very subtle never overplaying, the vocals are just right for the song as well. BanghaK part 1 is very much in the vein of Paranoid Android, I like the way you dribble around that minor progression and then what seems to be a sudden stop, it just paints the picture perfectly... it's like going back to your past or something very very psychodelic (No, I'm not tripping on anything, I'm at work :p ). Keep it up man. I look forward to your cd.

Regards,

Koala

Regarding your comments on DIstant Lands...can i call mayself the new barry white then?
I guess ill entitle the new album "Music for love".:D

Seriously, I really appreciate your feedback, oh yeah, and the other guy in Bangha just joined IBM, hes called Nosey, you might see him post on this thread soon. Im sure he´ll appreciate your comments.

Thanks so much one again man,

Okay, I've listened to all thre of them now, (just listened to Kaleidescope Dreaming tonight) and it's like with every new song I'm more impressed. I really like your music, I would definitely buy a CD, but what I think I would really like is to hear it done live. Kaleidesope has a bit of a different feel to it, I agree with some of the other comments there there's Pink Floyd similarities, but I hear other things too. I love the strings, and some of the vocal effects and harmonies are right up my alley. Man, I wish I could jam with you on some of this stuff, (vocalize I mean, I'm not the best jammer on guitar, skills still too limited) You have an incredibly musical talent. (duh, you're a musician!) what I mean is the scope of the music here, the richness of it, the color, intensity, dynamics, it's very impressive. I'd love to hear more.

I just had to let you know that my husband listened to the songs you posted here (hope you don't mind, he's always grabbing the headphones!) but he wanted me to tell you he liked them very much, and after he was done, he said they sounded very much like Pink Floyd and he had to go listen to some!:D
