well guys...It's seemed like for 4 years almost I have avoided arm pains & aches(I had had the regular sore muscle, but nothing like this)...but today I woke up and I couldve cried my arm was hurting so bad...The image I attatched is of my right arm and I have a big circle of where The muscle as a whole hurts and I have little circles symbolizing where it hurts most....can you guys tell me if this is a serious condition or if this is completly normal.........

Thanks guys!

Hey Ryan,
were you doing anything unusually strenuous yesterday ? I don't think there's anything normal about it -call a doctor - Even if it's you picking hand/arm, if it's not gone (or a lot better ) tomorrow, call a doctor !

Love the visual diagram ^.^. But iv never had pains theres. Once i had been sitting playing for a long time with my elbow bent and after i got done playing for a long time i went to set my guitar down and to unbend my elbow felt like someone was ripping apart my muscle. It was the most god awful pain. If you played more than usual or over stressed it then it will go away. If it takes forever to go away i'd go see a doctor but there not much that could be seriously wrong with it. If anything ripped it will grow back it will just ache badly. Im not a doctor though so there may be a buncha other stuff. If it doesnt go away just goto a doctor and if you can dont put it under alot of stress. (not saying dont play... Even when i got 3rd degree burns on my right hand from fireworks and had it bandaged up, i still played guitar, lol. Hurt like a biatch >.o)

Hi

If the pain don't go away quick then you should go to see a Doctor. And i really would go to a physiotherapist too. They can say more about muscle things and can massage it. This really works best.

Little wonder you arm hurts. Look! There's a really pissed-off guy with two mouths stuck in there. Duh.

No serious guitarists gets anywhere without gettin' hurt a bit :p

Anyway, quit playing for awhile. I know that's painfully (no pun intended) obvious, but that's really all the advice you need. Unless it doesnt go away for like a long while

warm up your arm, stretch it, and massage the muscles in your arm. Do this twice or 3 times a day.

DO NOT overdo it though. Make sure you use contrast compresses... or however you call that method in english (use hot compresses for 15 minutes or so and then switch to cold), the hot compresses will relax/soathe the muscle where the cold ones will release the presure and prevent swelling, do that foir a while and then use some GENTLE stretches, masage your forearm unless it feels uncofortable to do so, and most important of all GO SEE A DOCTOR.

I hope you get better.

Thanks guys...with some of your advice....and me just taking acouple days off my forearm is better than ever...and the little pissed of guy went away.....The reason I think that my arm even started hurtin gin the first place was because f me pushing myself to go faster and faster.....but the few days of rest + massage = all better now.....

Thanks again
Ryan

That's pretty unusual to get such severe pains just by simply "pushing" yourself while playing. You'd have to play for several hours while constantly tensing your arm, and avoid stretching out for that to happen. If you stretch out a lot, and warm up properly starting slowly, and avoid tensing any muscles, that sort of thing shouldn't really happen (not to that extent anyway).

In addition to all the above exercises and suggestions, you might want to hit up the library for a book on carpal tunnel and repetitive motion prevention. I found one awhile back with a bunch of great stretching exercises for all parts of the hand, shoulders, etc.

I was having a shoulder ache recently and mentioned it to my chiropractor (whom I fortunately swap services with--guitar lessons for back service). He busted out an ultrasound device that seemed to work pretty well.

That is where the arm hurts when you have tendonitis on the inside of the elbow. I would see a doctor or physical therapist.
