That is it... where do you pick from?
I have read tha many pick from the wrist, and some with the elbow... but who does it with the index and the thumb?
I do :D
This is more of a poll than a discussion...
I pick from both wrist and finger actually. It depends on which is more comfortable for me. I actually pick from my fingers when I do pick harmonics.

I guess a combination would be other.
I chose fingers, because as I watched myself playing last night, I noticed that 95% of the time I use my fingers for the movement. I use my elbow to move my hand to the desired position, then pick away with the thumb and index-finger. Strumming for me though comes from the elbow.

Mostly my hand is static and I control with the wrist, not one of those things I really ever thought about, I don't suppose it makes a whole lot of difference it's just what comes more naturally to you.

I dont play much rhythm so 95% of my picking comes from the fingers - economy picking stylee. until this post i hadnt thought much about it but I have minimal wrist action.

I have a small problem. It deosnt have to do with picking fromwrist or fingrs or that stuff, but Holding the pick comfortably.
i think i hold the pick out to far, but when i bring it inward to my hand its way to lcose for me. My thumb hits the strings when i pick, is this bad, you cant really hear it, but after hours of playing, i eventally get strings of skin anging off my skin that sting (a cuticle). /i dont know how to fix this, can someone take pictures of there fingers or something. Whenever i doa pinch harmonic my thmb stings like a BEAST! Help.

I pick from my wrist, until I reach near maximum speed (around 150 bpm). Then I automatically start picking with the elbow, which starts to hurt after a while. I've noticed that as you gradually get used to your maximum, you'll start picking from your wrist again.

I use my wrist when I paly slower more relaxed songs, and switch t my elbow when I need to play a little faster.

I also pick from my wrist, but when I speed up I switch to my elbow. I was wondering if anyone knows why this happens, because it seems fairly common.

My best guess is because the wrist locks up when it's going at an uncomfortable speed.

Hi there !
Same thing here, when I play at slow or moderate tempos, I pick from the wrist, but when I speed up I pick from the elbow.
For me the reason is simply that I can't pick as fast from the wrist as I can from the elbow, no matter how hard I practice :( .... until now I've always been able to pick faster from the elbow as opposed to the wrist.
But nevertheless I'm still practicing on speeding up my wrist picking.
Peace
Lars :)
