Have any of you guys seen the new guitar world with Zakk Wylde on the cover holding what looks to be Randy Rhoads's white Jackson RR? I almost wet myself (ok not literally) when I saw it, it was just a beautiful sight. Turns out it's actually an exact replica that Zakk's wife had made (by the original makers of Randy's) for Zakk's birthday. Zakk also got a vest that belonged to Randy from Sharon. How sweet is that guys? I want a wife that would do something like that for me, haha!

definatly a good issue, it has quite a few lessons in it, almost as helpful at steve vai's 30 hour work out.
metalprep6969 dude I was so shocked when I saw the cover of the magazine. I was with my girlfriend, who likes to joke around about my insane obsession with Zakk Wylde and Randy Rhoads (she's growing tired of the fact that the only CD I have in my car is Book of Shadows). Her words were something along the lines of "Oh god no". The cover pic is the first picture I have ever seen where Zakk Wylde is NOT holding a Gibson. For a moment I figured Hell froze over, but then I realized that it was a Jackson, and thus, probably a clone of Randy Rhoads' guitar.

I read from the site that Zakk gave away a guitar "boot camp" among with the other lessons from people like Petrucci. Can you guys give me some examples of what's in Zakk's lessons and the other practice tips?

Zakk's stuff usually revolves around pure technique and very little theory, at least from what I've seen in the past. Pentatonics & chicken picking!;)
Rhoad's vest won't fit Zakk though... Zakk is about 6'2" and little RR was about 5'6", with his boots on!

Yup Zakk´s work most of the time goes into pentatonics, pinch harmonics, chicken picking, and gear. I really love his playing and his simple yet very effective way of approaching pentatonics. I might buy guitar world although I did stop buying it a while back (did get the 30 hour workout) cuz the content of the magazine seems to be getting worse n worse. I might be getting old, but their interviews and all seem to be lacking in quality lately. (Plus, im fed up f their obsession with Jimmy Page)

Actually his Boot Camp is mainly chromatic runs, with a few pentatonic and diatonic runs as well. Here are his steps of things to do (just the titles of each part, i'm not gonna go into detail about everything) 1-give it all you've got or give nothing, 2-be disciplined, 3-go slow and easy, then build up, don't take shortcuts, 4-clock it, use a metronome and don't go on until u have it perfect at each previous level, 5-play it again, repetition is sometimes necessary, 6-practice at every chance you get, 7-use ur knowledge and what u practice or lose it, 8-make it musical, 9-follow greatness, copy a lil from your influences, then meld it into your own style, 10-play efficiently, don't purposely play something harder than it has to be, (ex. use economy picking if it's easier, but still know how to alternate pick), 11-be true to your music, make music for the music not to get famous. I highly recommend you get the article, it's very good, everytime i read something that zakk has to say (that's not when he's wasted!) makes me love that guy more and more. If you can't buy it (in a country where it's not easily found), it should be on www.guitarworld.com (http://www.guitarworld.com/) in a few weeks, just do a search for zakk wylde.
BTW, Rhoads' vest wouldn't fit me either, but I would sure as HELL like to have one man!

the next few issues are supposed to be more technique oriented like this one, at least thats what the editor said in his little article.

I *almost* bought that mag today. It has a Los Lonely Boys tune in there. They're probably one of the most talented new bands hitting the radio right now.
Too bad the mag is so much $$$. It's faster and cheaper to figure out stuff by ear anyways... I don't like small print tab

Yeah, its $19.95 in NZ, which is insane considering it used to be $9.95 about 3/4 years ago. I'd hate to imagine what it'll be in another 3/4 years.

You can subscribe to 12 issues of GW for 20 bucks in America, 35 in Canada, and 45 in another country. Look at the little subscription flyers inside the magazine. So even New Zealanders can get an issue for less than 4 bucks an issue.
Plus come on, tabs suck, i hate them. They are freaking always wrong.

Online tabs generally aren't too good. The magazines are usually 90% accurate or better.
I subscribe to Guitar One, but I can't stand Guitar World... Too cheesy and the articles are written for a younger generation

Yeah I generally read very little of the magazine, the only things I pay attention to are the columns (Zakk Wylde's and Shadows Fall's), the gear reviews, any interviews with actual good musicians, the Vulgar Display of Power section (guitarist's live rigs), ads about new product releases and such. Most issues take me about 20 minutes to finish cuz i'm just turning pages looking for something good. This past article was quite awesome: Zakk's boot camp with tips from Satch, Dime, Petrucci, Jonathan Donais, and such, the history of Zakk's original bullseye Paul "the Grail", a poster with Children of Bodom and Zakk's new RR replica, reviews of the RR1 and RR1T, Peavey JSX, and introduction of Zakk's MXR Wylde Overdrive pedal. Also Joe Satriani was in the "Dear Guitar Hero..." section. Good issues like this only come around about twice a year though. It amuses me when i see tabs for a Simple Plan song, haha. Yes Guitar World has shifted a lot of it's material toward no talent hacks, but hey, if horrible punk guitar players buy the mag, it's a good idea.

BTW, I saw an ad for Planet Waves cables with a mute button on them. I've heard the high end Planet Waves cables rule, what have you guys heard cuz I might switch from Monsters to them.

I'm that 'younger' generation, ie, 22, so I buy Guitar World.
:D

I have one of those planet wave cables, very useful instead of hitting the standby switch on my amp. But Sometimes if you forget that you have it off so no signal is going through, you can scare yourself that somethings wrong with your guitar rig.
