Ok, Recently i have had a problem with my strat. The neck on the underside seems to be slightly sticky (maby cause i got somthing on it, who knows) but i have wipied it down with everything from wood cleaner to water. I can not get it to stay un-sticky. I try to run my hand down the end of the neck and it starts to grab where its still sticky and it annoying the hell outa me and i cant play right when the neck isnt perfectly clean and doesnt catch while im trying to play. Anyone know whats up with this? I have even tried shaving off a very fine layer of wood on the end to maby in an attempt, get this stuff off. Its a big problem for me and has anyone else had this problem? I have just been using my v guitar since then (no sticky stuff on it) so its no biggie but it really bugs me.

The neck is probably finished with some sort of product. Try using Goof-Off or some lighter fluid on a paper towel and rub it off. Always put this type of product on the rag FIRST, never apply it directly to your guitar! I use this to take off sticker residue.

well my friend has that problem as well. He has really sweaty hands so it gets all grimey, but only on his ibanez neck, not on his acoustic. I'm thinking the finish might allow this to happen. A damp cloth solves the problem for him, or some guitar polish.
Don't try playing your Yngwie stuff right afterwards though. Lighter fluid + Dry wood = accident waiting to happen.

You might consider rubbing the neck with scotebrite pads or steel wool to give it more of a satin finish.

LOL! Nice one... :) .... But the neck never use to get sticky like that. I believe i may have gotten somthing on it but try as i may it will not come off. Ill try some products and see if i can get this sticky stuff to come off but so far i havnt been able to get anything off. :( ..

If I wuz yoo, I'd sand off the finish (perhaps use a chemical stripper first) and apply tung oil. I did this to a guitar of mine which had a glossy finish on the neck. The tung oil protects the wood, yet it feels like the wood is unfinished... smooth as silk.
