Hi guys
I do have a question for you:
Did anyone of you try one of the new Peavey V-types yet, like at a trade-show or a store, or does anyone of you already own one ?
What do you think of it ?
I haven´t had a chance to check it out yet, so I am interested to hear some opinions...
Warm regards
Eric

Essatic,

JFYI, the V-Type is an updated version of the old Peavey Vandenberg Signature model. The body shape is exactly the same. Check out this site:
Vandenberg-Guitar (http://www.geocities.com/vandenberget/)
The Peavey Vandenberg is an awesome guitar, although it looks like your typical "wang bar shred guitar"... it sounded great, very bluesy, was very durable and played great...
Still one of my favorites. I own three of them and they´re my main guitars...
So I was interested to see if those V-types ( which are VERY similar to the Vandenberg guitars, there are just a few slight changes ) are as good as their "ancestors"
:p
Haven´t heard about the Maverick, gotta check it out
Warm regards
Eric

i kinda wanted to bring up this topic because i tried one of these out, but it was the exp version. I have to say that peavey is pretty awesome imop. I have owned and own quite a few of thier products. My wolfgang is my favorite guitar i've played. (the honeymoon is over for the most part i've had it for about 3-4 months.) But anyway i've played quite a few of thier imports and am quite impressed. I kinda wanted to see what other people thought and this thread kinda jogged my memory.

don't judge
N.P : slipknot i like a bit of everything (except rap)

Hey there,

yeah, Peavey makes some very nice products. Their reputation might not be as good as that of other companies ( they built a few guitars that weren´t exactly top-sellers )
Some examples...

A student of mine was looking for an inexpensive but decent guitar ( D´uh ), and he found a used Raptor ( I think ) in a pawn shop. Sure, the pickups weren´t exactly perfect, but the guitar actually played and sounded good, and it was quite durable also.
Very good guitar for beginners.

A few years ago, I also bought a Wolfgang and used it for about 2 years. Very good guitar, IMHO. What I liked was that it actually had some pretty innovative features that made sense in a playing-situation ( The D-Tuna etc. )

And I have been playing Peavey Vandenbergs for years now. They really stood the test of time for me, and after I replaced the pickups, I was absolutely happy with them.

Hey, Eric!

I haven't had a chance to try one yet. Want to pretty bad since like you, I own more than one of the originals. I've seen a couple of the import versions on ebay for sale. I can't imagine that they would be so bad that guys like us who own the originals would judge them as junk but who knows until we try one. Very curious.

The US made models are going for around $1,200. I had a store in Tennessee tell me they would let me have one for right around $900 (right after Peavey announced they were making them).

Oh, saw a quilt top Vandy go for about $650 on ebay just this past week. Super looking piece.

Yeah, I am just reading up on them on the Peavey site. Click to see the Peavey page about the V-Type (http://www.peavey.com/products/amps_mi/electricguitars/vtypeusa_satinblack.cfm)
Some random thoughts:

-The headstock looks different. This is a cosmetical thing and doesn´t have much to do with the sound of the guitar, but I think I prefer the original design
- There´s a doubleblade-pickup ( so I take it it´s a humbucker ) in the neck position. I actually think that is cool. One thing that bothered me was the difference in output between the bridge-HB and the neck-SC in the original Vandy´s, that´s why I replaced all pickups in them...
- Original Floyd Rose-trem... cool. I really don´t like the Kahlers. They´re too heavy, and mine have to be fixed constantly. I had a luthier replace several parts of the original bridge cuz they were used up. That´s not unusual after a few years, but many of the parts are not really best quality.
So I guess an original FR is a plus...
-They placed the toggle exactly where I put it on my Vandys. I think it´s a better location for it...
- Double expansion truss rod... cool, I always liked that feature.

Now, some of the features are an improvement, others are simply different.
Question is: Does it sound and feel the same ?
I guess I´ll have a chance to check it out at one of the next trade-shows I´ll attend...
We´ll see
Eric

PS: Did you see the "Create a Wolfgang" feature where you can design a Wolfgang the way you like it... the results can be seen immediately on the site. Its a fun-toy :)

By the way, here´s a link to the Wolfgang Custom Shop (http://www.peavey.com/evhcustomshop/)
( the "create a wolfgang-thing" I mentioned above ). Its fun.
I went through the process twice and here are the two results:

yea the local shop that deals in peavey is getting some custom shops in  and I had asked him if he can get wolfgang pickups previously, and when he said since he was getting those in he'd sell me the pickups out of the wolfies :D cause he was gonna customize them even more, by putting different pickups in them. :) :) :)fine by me i like them.
