I am just looking for a good recommendation of a distortion pedal. I am getting sick of my amps distortion because its very dirty and the it makes my tone all muddy. I want a distortion that won't sound muddy and will just be worth the money. I saw on Steve Vai's DVD that he uses Boss plain distortion pedal, so I am going to try that out when I go to Guitar Center. Any other suggestions (money doesn't matter, but I just won't spend over 100 dollars for a distortion pedal).

Try a Keeley modded Boss DS1.

Vai uses one.

Great tone, just use it to add x factor to my amp.

Boss DS1, the Keeley modded DS1...or if you want to spend a little more you could go for the Soldano Supercharger (really kicks ***!)...

I'm really fond of the Boss MT-2 because it has a 3-band prametric EQ with a mid frequency contour. You can get pretty much any sound you want out of it. I'm pretty fond of it anyways. Though I have to say it has ALOT of distorsion. I actually had to turn it down alittle bit when I was playing Death metal...lol.

Try the Pro Co. Rat, and the EH Big Muff. I love these pedals but they are some of the muddiest around! I can't really recommend anything else though because I happen to like fuzzy sludge mudiness.

Its funny to see that still a lot of people like the MT-2. I have it myself, its good if you are alone and all, but damn, its too noisy. You can expect to have a clean sound with it, and don't expect to make some gig with it, or it will sound like crap.
