I've just been away from the guitar for a few days to go on holiday and it's the first time I've been away from it for over a year. Today is my first day back and I've had to take all my techniques down to half tempo just to get them in time with the click. Has anyone else experienced similar trouble and how long do you think i can expect it to last?

A year is long but few days,it won't take (or should not take) more than a day or two of good practice.

Well, sometimes taking a break from music improved my playing. No kidding. Ok, when I pick up the guitar for the first time after a couple of weeks I have been doing all but playing it might seem like "whoa! I can't play a damn thing!" but it happened that in a couple of days I was better than before leaving on vacation... I ended up thinking that guitar for me is like "Tiramisu", you prepare it today and eat it tomorrow, lol.

I'm travelling monday and going to be apart of my guitar for 6 days... i thought it would be no trouble but after reading this i'm kind of worried since i'm only playing for 8 months so, what will happen to me?

you should be fine eagal heart. When I wasn't obsesed with my playing I wouldn't play for like a week sometime and notice an improvment. Somtimes a rest is needed just as in anything else. You wouldn't want to work out too much I mean you muscles would just keep getting worn and wouldnt grow and all that wieghtlifting would be for nothing right? Same idea hear. Breaks are good as long as thier not taken for too long of a time.
