Is rock music dead or has it just split and become many different sub-genre's? I would love to hear your opinion's on the matter. I for one don't think it's dead I just believe it's lying dormant until some new-comer brings it back. I mean yes some of the bands from the 80's early 90's still play but they have conformed to what people think is 'in'. Well I would really like to hear your thoughts about this so yeah...

Rock is dead in my opinion, crappy sounds, WAY to simple to myears, no solos. Me and a good friend are gonna tryto bring some good rock back. Wish us luck.

Well, Van Halen is back, and The Darkness are sellin' a whole lot of records everywhere... so maybe there's a little hope...

Yeah, I'm going to play my part in bringing back real rock with good solos. I just have to get better at solos first ;)

Rock is dead. Try classifying any new acts as rock. I mean some rock bands are still around, (Van Halen, Aerosmith...), but the newer generation of bands seem to be staying far away from the genre. Sad. I mostly miss progressive rock. Now all we seem to be getting are the talentless boy-bands of alternative/rap/something, like Linkin Park.

Also, to me, the greatest types of metal are fading away too. Way too much death-metal. I love In Flames, but that's about it.

Death metal rawks! That's one of the styles I bring to the mic! Or to the strings ;)

Nothing dies it only changes, but then someone brings it back to a previous incarnation (i.e. The Darkness and Jet). If you want what it started out as pop in some old Buddy Holly and Elvis Records.

I honestly think music is just as good now as it used to be. I know there maybe no "super bands" that will still be perfroming in 30 years but itsk inda cool how theres more bands and not just 1 taking over right now. I for one love the darkness, the white stripes, jet, and tons of other current bands (even without sol0s) but thats just me...

Depends what you call real rock. Maybe a lot of people here might diss nu metal but I quite liked some of it, solos or no solos, but it was big whatever. Love 'em or loathe em, Limp Bizkit's 1st 3 albums shifted over 30m albums worldwide. I reckon the Darkness' success with their debut is a freak happening. The music press went on and on about how The Darkness were at the forefront of the rebirth of 'real' rock. I'm still waiting for it. Fact is unlike the 60s through to the mid 80s when bands from the Stones through to Van Halen, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard etc sold platinum albums by the truckload, there are no rock acts out there doing business like that these days. So, if you dont count the phenom that was nu metal, I spose rock is really just a bunch of subgenres with niche appeal.
