Im learning a chord progression from "The Real Book" edition 5, anyway a couple of chord symbols i dont know what they mean:
B '7 (the ' is actually like a black blob)
C+7
sorry to seem stupid haha, but ive only just started learning chords
p.s. these chords are in song 18 (all the things you are) thanks in advance for help
Hi Wudluv2sweep,
* The first one seems to be Bo7 (B diminished 7th) (b d f ab)
* C+7 may stand for Cmaj7 in some cases (C major 7th) (c e g b)

Zatz, I'm going to have to argue with you about that. I believe that stands for C Augmented 7th, CTriangle7th is major seventh.
Dommy,
well yea - that may be the case too... I agree with you.
I've seen maj7, ma7, M7, +7 suffixes for major 7th chords.
You must be right - '+' most commonly indicates augmented 5th. Context needed anyways to tell for sure...
Thanks for pointing this out,
Zatz.

Yup, the C+7 in All The Things You Are is played behind the note Ab (which is the augmented fifth of the C Major scale, well, actually G#, but the song is in Ab so... :rolleyes: ). The chord could also be written as Cmaj7#5.
Wudluv2sweep: I guess you already know that C-7 would mean Cm7?

I'm going to argue this one to the death. I have NEVER seen that notated like that. C+ is C Augmented, C+7 is C Augmented, which is C E G#, with an added FLAT SEVENTH.
I'll even take screenshots from the Realbook Version of ATTYA and the Colorado Cookbook version. And a clip from the New Real Book Chord chart.
I'm going to excessive lengths to get CORRECT information out there, I may feel like a bit of an *******, but I think its necessary. Yeah, I need webspace...
Considering this is The Real Book, I dont see any reason for changing the notation from CMaj7 to C+7 on a whim especially since CMaj7 was used to denote that previously. Maj7#5 was probably rarely used in cadential progressions back in the 30's and 40's, around when this tune was written. A Maj7#5 comes around from harmonizing either the melodic or harmonic minor scales, and considering the context of how it is being used(F#-7 B7 EMaj7 C+7 F-7), this can be analyzed as a ii V i in E, then a modulation back to F with a V7#5 and a Imin7. The Ab is shared between the EMaj7 and the C+7, so it makes for good voice leading.

B °7 <- could the 'black blob' have been a degree symbol?
if so then it's a dim7
or was 'the blob' possibly this -> ø ...if so then it's a half-diminished seventh which is a m7 chord with a b5 so it'd be m7b5
