Hey there guys!

A wee gigging question here

I've started playing with a covers band (so lots of widdly solo's)

I dont know if it's just me, but i feel I need to be able to hear what i'm playing or else i screw it up.

Some nights the monitor mix has been crap and i've had to do the show entirely from memory. At lots of venues, there is simply no room for me to have my own floor mounted monitor, so someone suggested that I use an in-ear device

Does such a thing exist? Has anyone used them?

Hi there,

yes, there are several in ear-monitor systems available.
It works like this: You wear a little beltpack. A thin wire goes from there to two small earplugs.

Whats great about this is that you have the same monitor volume all over the stage, wherever you go. And you can have your own monitor mix, donīt have to share.
I have been using those a lot when I was playing in coverbands or as a sideman. The only unusual part is:
you might need some time to get used to an in ear-monitor, since it feels kinda isolating ( after all, itīs a bit like wearing earphones on stage ), it sounds different to be on stage.
But itīs a great system, very liberating and useful...
Hope this helps
Eric

Thanks Eric, this has been bugging me for sometime

So does the monitor work like a radiopack then? Can you use a wireless system in conjunction with it?

Cheers
Chris

Hi there

Yes, itīs a wireless system. The beltpack is a receiver. That way, you can move all over the stage.
You can use a wireless guitar system in addition to it, you just have to wear a second beltpack...
