Hey guys,

Just wondering if anybody could show me some tricks or tips to improve my blues/rock soloing chops. I would say I'm in the advanced intermediate to advanced guitarist category (12 years + playing). The thing is, I went to a jam last week where there were some SMOKING lead guitar players. One guy was a speed demon using all downpicking and playing outside during a very chilly evening. Another guy was playing like Satch and then he would just switch seamlessly into a scorching Van Halen style tapping run. I was about to get up there and jam, then I had a look at my claw-hand. Way too cold for me to jam(poor circulation). Anyways, I thought I was smokin till I saw these cats rip it up. I noticed that none of them really did any alternate picking. I used to be very much into that but now I think I'd rather get into the Clapton, Page, Beck, SRV blues/rock style. Do you guys have any chopsbuilding riffs and or tips in this style? Any and all input is more than welcome. Thanks!
the Beav.

Prob the best way to develope that kind of soloing tech would be to learn a couple solos from each of the people you named. Get a feel for the licks they use and which intervals blend best for that particular tone/style of music.

Definitely check out some songs by the top players in the genre. Learn SRV's Pride and Joy and Scuttle Buttin'. Both are available at the powertab archive (www.powertabs.net I think...)

That should give you plenty of licks to start! :)
