Hi everyone!

Lately I've been working on my technique, especially picking. I've made steady progress using a lot of famous picking excercises (PG lick =] ). I noticed it has become quite a lot easier to pick up new licks and get them in a decent tempo. But there is one thing thats not going so smooth. When I use a metronome I've got a lot of trouble getting new licks up to the speed that I'm able to play it without a metronome. Should I just keep practicing more with a metronome? I heard that some people (Rusty Cooley I think) never even bothered using one. Well, let me know what you think!

There are only two reasons that I can think of which would explain your ability to play licks faster w/o a metronome than w/ one: It's just a mental snag for you because you arent totally used to playing with the beat and it'll go away or else when you're playing the licks fast your timing is off. Either way, practice both with and without the metronome.
