In Van Halen's Everybody Wants Some at 0:47-48s I hear this crazy springy type of sound. How is that done? Any ideas?

i don't know the song, but i heard that eddie used to scratch over the tremolo springs on the back of the guitar (strat-style) to get wierd noises.

maybe it's that.
