Eric V, you hit the nail on the head. Attitude is just about as important as the music. When I was in (college) radio I had everyone and their sister handing me demos. Usually, when they'd downplay the quality I'd hear it. If they didn't, then I didn't have pre-conceived notions about it and listened with open ears. Seriously, why does someone want to give the time of day to an artist handing them work that they don't think represents them?

You have to be confident, but not cocky. Humble, but not self-defacing. There's a fine line in the middle that will help you get the results you want and the respect you deserve.

Great rant! Good point!

Hi there,

thanks, I am glad you like the article.
And yeah, thatīs exactly my point. I mean, if you record your demo in your rehearsal room without a click, "industry people" will be able to filter it out or ignore it when listening ( they know that most amateur-bands canīt afford to record at a gigantic studio ), and non-musicians ( parents etc. ) wonīt care or even notice.

So thereīs no point in downplaying it in advance.
Itīd be enough to write something like "recorded analog at our rehearsal room" or something in the booklet.
Thanks !
Eric

Exactly!

Say, I checked out your website. When d'ya think the buying public can get their hands on your new album? It sounds cool!

PS: I've pointed out this site to my musician friends. So much nicer than other musician/guitar related web boards with flame wars and childish rants. This site seems to draw serious musicians. Very cool! :)

Hi Scott,
thanks a lot. Well, after several delays, release date is now set for spring 03. Hopefully weīll manage to get it out by then.

Warm regards
