Yesterday, I tried out an ESP LTD m200fm model that I had been searching for, for quite a while. I was thinking 'just put a reserve on it without playing' as i have always been nervous about trying gear out that i havent paid for, and i'm usually a bedroom musician. however, went to the shop and said that i was there the day before (Which i was!) and saw the guitar and inquired about putting a reserve on it. So i came back, and before i put a reserve on it, i just spurted out 'could i try it out firstly before i put a reserve on it?' so i was in the trial room at the back of the store thinking 'smeg!!!! now what?!' so i just started on a few basics, and about 5 mins in i was shredding to my hearts content with a few people watching. someone even came into the room and was looking at some amps and guitars. I wasn't swayed and moved out of his way to let him look, while still playing. after about 3/4 of an hour or more, i thought 'ok they should have called me out after about 10 mins...' so i came out instead and put a reserve on it.

I don't know how i overcame my phobia of that trial room. Probably just a longing to try the guitar out. and to put it through it's paces. I think i could now go a step up and play in a reasonably large sized audience, however, i would probably start simple until my confidence got better.

for all those who panic about playing at them shops or live. Don't. I even outplayed a kid in the room next to me. (o.k. it was smells like teen spirit, but he was going too slow and i was feeling cocky.) I feel horrible about it now, but i felt like i could do anything in that room after a few minutes.
